細かく言うと、 野球用語のfungo は『ノック、ノックしたボール、ノックバット』の意味です。 また、ノックによる守備練習=シートノックは、単にfielding practice と言うそうです。 (野球用語のノックやシートノックは和製英語だったんですね)
バットのメーカーのツイートでも fungo という単語が出てました。 Perfect fungo bat for short range just like the video. A good defense begins with the good fungo. 訳 「このビデオのような短い距離用の完璧なノックバットです。 良い守備は良いノックから始まります」 あるいは「良いノックバットから」かもしれません。

『ムードメーカー』に相当する英語を辞書で見ると、 life of the party という表現が有りました。 Merriam-Webster の説明では the life of the party someone who is very lively and amusing at a party or other social gathering 「パーティや社交の場で元気で楽しい人」 と出ていました。
ちょっとパーティ限定かもしれません。 これ、野球チームの場合は、the life of the team としたら通じそうですけど。
他にはもっと説明的になりますが a person who enlivens an atmosphere a person who inspires other players も辞書に出ていました。
例えば、 Lars Nootbaar has become a player who inspire the Japanese team. 「ラーズ・ヌートバ―選手は日本チームのムードメーカーになっている」 のように言えますね。
考え方を変えて 、ムードメイカーを名詞にせず Nootbaar is enliving the atmosphere in the Japanese team. 「ヌートバ―選手が日本チームの雰囲気を盛り上げている」 のように言うのもいいと思います。
ちなみに Ohtani is the life of the Japanese team. は、「大谷選手は日本チームの命です」のように受け取られるかもしれませんが、 まあそう思われても間違えではないというか、 それはそれで正解な気がします。
でもまあ、書くのなら誤解はされにくいので、ここではあえてheartful とhurtfulを合わせて使ってみましょう。 He said heartful words, but she took them as hurtful. 「彼は心のこもった言葉を発したが、彼女はそれを傷つける言葉として受け止めた。」 ちなみにこの文も He said heartfelt words, but she took them as hurtful. の方が普通かもしれません。
今日、Angels のトラウト選手と大谷選手が続けてホームランを打って、日本では一部のニュース記事で「アベックホームラン」という言われ方をしてました。 でも、アベックホームランは和製英語で、アベックという言葉自体、フランス語で英語ではありません。 今日のような連続打者によるホームランは、英語では back-to-back home runs というそうです。 Today, Trout and Otani of the Angels hit home runs in quick succession, and some news articles in Japan called them “avec home runs”. However, “avec home run” is Japanese English; “avec” itself is French, not English. In English, home runs by consecutive batters, as seen today, are called “back-to-back home runs“.
僕のお手製の例文です。 🙈 Our society has been on a roller coaster because of COVID-19. Covid-19のせいで私たちの社会は急激な変化の中にいる。 (何とか落ち着いてせいかつしたいんですけどね。)
Learner’s Word of the Day: roller coaster – a ride at an amusement park which is like a small, open train with tracks that are high off the ground and have sharp curves and steep hills https://t.co/pLUKrSkylbpic.twitter.com/1d9P9wz1ut
jump the gun のgun はトラック競技などのスタートの合図をする銃で、 この表現はそもそも『フライングをする』という意味でもあるんですね。 (注意:フライングは和製英語だそうです。)
Merriam-Websterのサイトでの説明では jump the gun 1) to start in a race before the starting signal 競技でスタートの合図前にスタートすること 2)to act, move, or begin something before the proper time 適切な時期が来る前に行動したり、何かを始めたりすること だそうです。
