英語で『歩道橋』は、
footbridge、pedestrian bridge や pedestrian overpass 等と言います。

A nearby pedestrian bridge had recently been renovated.
This one with its spiral staircase looked interesting, so I took a picture .
最近、近くの歩道橋が改修されていました。
螺旋階段があるのが面白く見えたので、写真を撮りました。

ぼくは歩道橋もけっこう好きですけど、
車のために人が階段を上り下りするというのが嫌いな人がいるのは分かります。
バリアフリーではないですしね。

Today, I would like to write about Senzoku Station, which is often shown in the manga/anime “Dangers in My Heart” or “Boku Yaba”.
今日は、マンガ・アニメの「僕の心のヤバイやつ」でよく出てくる洗足駅について書きたいと思います。

Senzoku is a station on the Tokyu Meguro Line, and if you are coming from the JR Yamanote Line, it is the fourth stop after changing at Meguro, as shown below.
洗足は東急目黒線の駅で、山手線からだと下のように目黒で乗り換えて4駅目になります。

　There are places around this station that may have served as models for the Boku Yaba manga and anime.
The closest place other than the station itself is a bench in the park across the pedestrian crossing in front of the station.
この駅の周辺で、僕ヤバのマンガ・アニメでモデルとなったと思われる場所がいくつか有ります。
駅自体以外で一番近いのは、駅の正面の横断歩道を渡った所にある公園のベンチです。

洗足に関するおまけ情報

・Senzoku station is located in Meguro-ku, Tokyo. No other stations on the line are in Meguro-ku. For instance, the stations from Meguro to Nishi-Koyama are in Shinagawa-ku. The Ookayama station next to Senzoku is in Ota-ku.
洗足駅は東京目黒区に属しています。目黒線の他の駅で目黒区にあるものは有りません。
例えば、目黒から西小山までの駅は品川区内です。次の駅の大岡山は大田区に有ります。

・Senzoku is at the edge of Meguro-ku and borders Shinagawa-ku and Ota-ku.　
洗足は目黒区の端に有り、品川区と大田区に接しています。

There is a triple point which Senzoku, Meguro-ku meets Shinagawa-ku and Ota-ku at one point：Senzoku, Meguro-ku on the near left side, Hatanodai, Shinagawa-ku in the far front, and Kita-Senzoku, Ota-ku on the right.
目黒区洗足が品川区、大田区と接する三重点が有ります。左手前が目黒区洗足、正面奥が品川区旗の台、右側が大田区北千束です。

Yamada in Boku Yaba is called as the prettiest girl in Megro-ku. So, you may have a remained chance to find the girls like Yamada in Shinagawa-ku and Ota-ku at this triple point.
山田は僕ヤバの中で目黒区で一番の美少女と言われています。なので、この三重点で品川区や大田区の山田みたいな女の子を見つけるチャンスは残っているかもしれません。

・The name Senzoku (洗足）consists of two Chinese characters Sen (洗) and Zoku (足）meaning wash and foot, respectively.
The present name Senzoku (洗足=washing feet) is said to be derived from a legend that a famous Buddhist priest Nichiren washed his feet at a pond in this area.
However, the name Senzoku that is the same sound with different Chinese characters (千束 ) meaning “a thousand bundles” was originally used.
The reason for the alteration of the notation is not clear, but may be due to the influence of Nichiren sect.
　There are two other railway stations having the similar names, Kita-Senzoku on the Oimachi-line and Senzoku-ike on the Ikegami-line. Interestingly, Kita-Senzoku uses 千束(thousand…), and Senzoku and Senzokuike-ike use 洗足(wash…) for notation, even owned by the same Tokyu company.

　洗足という地名は、洗と足という2つの漢字からなります。
現在の洗足という地名は、有名な仏教僧である日蓮がこの地の池で足を洗ったという伝説に由来すると言われています。しかし、もともとは同じ音で「千束」という漢字が使われていました。表記が変わった理由は定かではないが、日蓮宗の影響かもしれなません。
　似たような名前の鉄道駅として、大井町線の「北千束」と池上線の「洗足池」があります。同じ東急でも、北千束は「千束」、洗足と洗足池は「洗足」と表記するのが面白いです。

like a bat out of hell は文字通りなら「地獄から出てきたコウモリのように」ですが、
これで『猛スピードで』の意味になるのだそうです。
（まあ、イメージとしては分からなくはない感じですかね）

刑事ドラマなどで出てくる『非常線』という言葉は、英語では cordon と言います。

辞書サイトCollins の説明では
A cordon is a line or ring of police, soldiers, or vehicles preventing people from entering or leaving an area.
「cordon （非常線）とは、警官、兵士、車両などが列や 環状に配置され、人の出入りを防ぐこと」となっています。

cordon は『交通遮断線』などとも訳されます。

使ってみましょう。
The police officers have set up a cordon.
「警察官たちが非常線を張った」

cordon は『非常線を張る、交通遮断する』という意味の動詞としても使われます。
The street was cordoned off after the bombing incident.
「爆破事件の後、通りは交通遮断された」

「レーンボーブリッジ封鎖できません」は
It is impossible to cordon off the Rainbow Bridge.
のようにも訳せますね。

駅の『ホーム』は、英語では platform です。
(ホームと日本語で言いますけど、home ではないんですよね。当たり前か)

I visited the platform of Meguro Station on the Tokyu Meguro Line, which appears in episodes 5-6 of the anime “Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu” .
アニメ「僕の心のヤバイやつ」の第5話～第6話、
職業見学の帰り道で出てくる東急目黒線のホームに行ってみました。

This is where Ichikawa and Yamada missed the train when returning to school from their vocational visit.
市川と山田が職業見学から学校に戻る際、電車に乗り遅れた場所です。

秋田書店のある飯田橋からは地下鉄で東急目黒線につながっているので、乗り換えなしで洗足まで帰れるはずですが、市川たちは飯田橋からJRで目黒まで移動したようです。

僕が行ったときは、自動販売機にアニメに出てきた紅茶花伝のミルクティーは有りませんでした。別のミルクティーは売ってましたけど。

「脱線」の英語は❓－🚃－#つぶやき英単語 1946

『脱線』は英語でderailment です。

これは動詞だと derail で『脱線させる、脱線する』の意味になります。
de+rail で「レールから外れる」という感じでしょうか。

そういう鉄道事故があれば、これらの単語が使われます。
例えば
Watch: The East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment is just one of more than 1,000 train derailments that happen every year. WSJ breaks down the most common ways trains come off the tracks.
「注目： オハイオ州イーストパレスチンで発生した列車脱線事故は、毎年1,000件以上発生している列車脱線事故のひとつに過ぎません。WSJでは、列車が線路から外れる最も一般的な原因を解説しています。」

そんなに頻繁に脱線事故起こるものなんでしょうか？

鉄道に関しては、日本は安全性・正確性を誇れますね。

花園近鉄ライナーズのliner は❓－🚈－#つぶやき英単語 1906

ラグビーチーム 花園近鉄ライナーズ、英語で書けば Liners ですね。

このliner という言葉には『定期船、定期便』の意味が有ります。
（その他にも『線を引く人（道具）、野球のライナー』などもなります。）

このラグビーチーム名 Liners は、近鉄特急「アーバンライナー」に由来しているのだそうです。
この特急は大阪難波から名古屋息ですと、平日ならきちんと1時間ごとに出るようなので定期便的な扱いなのかと思います。
鉄道の場合は、路線を line というので、そこを走る特別な電車にライナーとつけているのかもしれません。

2/18に花園近鉄ライナーズと埼玉パナソニックワイルドナイツのラグビーの試合が熊谷であり、ワイルドナイツ 41-6 ライナーズ の結果になりました。

ワイルドナイツにとっては、勝利の上、稲垣選手100キャップのセレモニーも有り、おめでたい感じの試合でした。

近鉄ライナーズは苦しいところかもしれませんが、今後の健闘を期待しています。

trainspotting って何？

Cambridgeの辞書によると
trainspotting
the activity of watching trains and writing down the numbers that each railway engine has
「トレインスポッティングとは、列車を観察し、それぞれの車両番号が何であるかを書き留める活動」だそうです。

鉄オタの一形態ですね。

どこの国でも、こういう趣味の人がいるわけです。

英語で「踏切」や「遮断機」は？―🚃―#つぶやき英単語 1681

オンライン英会話でスラムダンクの話になって、
そのアニメで出てくる江ノ電の踏切のことを言おうとしたのですが、
頭の中に日本語で出てきて、少しの間、踏切や遮断機の英語を思いつかない状態でした。（不覚！）

前にも書いたように
『踏切』は railroad crossing で、そこにある『遮断機』は crossing gate と言うのですね。遮断機の棒のところを言うなら、crossing bar です。

いや、知ってるはずの言葉も使ってないと出て来ない場合も有りますね。
まあ日本語でも出て来ないこともあるので・・・。
まあ、頭の中からこぼれたら、また拾えばいいだけですから。

スラムダンクは新作の映画が今年公開になるんですね。
