日本語の元素『酸素（さんそ）』は、英語では oxygen (ɑ́ksidʒən) と呼ばれます。
Oxygen (chemical symbol O) is an element with atomic number 8 and atomic weight 16.00. At room temperature, it exists as a colorless, odorless gas in the form of O₂ molecules.
酸素（元素記号O）は、原子番号８、原子量16.00 の元素で、常温ではO2分子の形をとり無色・無臭の気体として存在します。
Oxygen constitutes approximately 21% of the atmospheric air on Earth and is also an essential element for respiration and sustaining life in living organisms.
酸素は地球の大気の約21%を占めており、生物の呼吸と生命維持に不可欠な元素でも有ります。
And also, this element is chemically active, and its reactions with other elements (oxidation) are significant in various ways. The phenomena of objects burning and iron rusting are also caused by oxidation.
また、この元素は化学的に活性で、他の元素との反応（酸化）は様々な意味で重要なものです。物が燃える現象や鉄がさびることも、この酸化によるものです。
The origin of this element’s name comes from the Greek words oxys, meaning “acid,” and gen, meaning “to generate.” At the time of its naming, oxygen was thought to be the element that characterized acids. (Today, acids are understood in relation to hydrogen ions.)
この元素名の語源は、ギリシャ語の oxys「酸」と gen「生成する」です。この命名時に、酸素は酸を特徴づける元素と思われていました。（現在、酸は水素イオンと関連で理解されています。）
