オンライン英会話で焼き鳥の話になったら
先生の口から耳慣れない単語が出てきて・・・で、覚えました。
『串』は英語で skewer と言うんですね。
the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionaryで説明を見ると
skewer (noun)
a long thin pointed piece of metal or wood that is pushed through pieces of meat, vegetables, etc. to hold them together while they are cooking, or used to test whether something is completely cooked
「肉や野菜などを調理中に突き刺して固定したり、何かが完全に調理されているかどうかを調べるために使用する、金属や木でできた細長い先の尖ったもの」
（うん、これは確かに串のことですね。）
skewer は動詞として『串にさす』の意味にもなるようです。
『竹串』は bamboo skewer
『串団子』は skewered dumplings だそうです。
使ってみましょう。
‘Negima’ is a type of yakitori, grilled chicken and green onions alternately skewered.
To make this, you need bamboo skewers as well as chicken and green onions.
「ネギマは焼き鳥の一種で、鶏肉とねぎまを交互に串に刺して焼いたものです。

僕は、串に刺してある食べ物、なんか特別感が有って好きかもしれません。
